Which Braces Color is the Ugliest?
If you’re getting orthodontic work done on your teeth, you’ve probably considered the colors of braces that are available to you. You might have even chosen your colors already without realizing it! It might not be a big deal to some people, but if you’re like me, what color of braces you get matters quite a bit because some colors are just so ugly! So today I want to talk about which braces color is the ugliest and which color would look best on you!
White on White
White braces aren’t actually that ugly. They’re plain, but there’s something about them that makes you want to check them out. The lack of color lets other features stand out and can help create a cohesive look from top to bottom. Not only that, but they don’t fade as easily as other colors (so if you have white on your teeth already, they won’t end up looking yellow). If you think your smile could use some brightness, consider getting some white ones instead of picking a pattern. In terms of durability and comfort, they tend to be a solid option.
Teal on Teal
We think teal and black are both cute colors for braces, but there’s one color we would never recommend. Teal on teal braces are definitely a bold fashion statement, but they just don’t look very pretty. One of our patients told us that she thought it looked like those old-fashioned highlighters with really intense colors. It’s a pity because we think teal looks great on everyone else...but maybe not when it comes to dental equipment! If you do decide to go with teal on your braces, perhaps try wearing soft pink lipstick or blush to provide some feminine contrast? That could help pull everything together.
Pink on Pink
It's true, pink on pink looks super cute. But when you're talking about braces and colors, it can be hard to tell whether or not pink will look good on you. If your teeth are naturally very yellow, then pink braces probably won't do anything for you; opt for a darker color instead. In that case, go with purple or blue—darker colors won't clash with your natural tooth color as much as a lighter one might. If your teeth are particularly white or they have a cool undertone to them (like grays), stay away from any dark colors: You don't want to draw too much attention to them! Stick with brighter shades like red, turquoise, or orange so that they pop against your brilliant whites.
Black on Black
Many would consider all-black braces to be a good, even safe choice. It’s bold and stylish—and you can match them with pretty much anything. They’re perfect for teens, who are still trying to find their personal style while they navigate teenage life. If you’re in high school or have a big event coming up that requires black-tie attire, all-black will keep your smile stylishly hidden away. But here’s where it gets tricky: many patients think that black braces are safe because they simply blend into your smile.
Maroon on Maroon
When it comes to braces colors, there’s a lot of evidence to suggest that maroon and maroon are inseparable. Some have suggested that if your braces aren’t maroon they aren’t really braces, while others believe there’s no such thing as ugly color braces. However, in today’s post we are going to answer one question: what do you think about these differences and how did it come about? We are also going to explain a little bit more about what it means to be an orthodontist and we will even share some tips on choosing brace colors for both kids and adults alike.
Grey on Grey
Because of its pastel hue, light grey can appear almost as a beige. While we’re sure that’s what your orthodontist was going for, you won’t want to look like you just had an accident on your braces—or worse, like a human Popsicle. Beige may be warm and soft but it makes your teeth look dingy. Grey on grey will keep people from wanting to talk to you because they’ll feel sorry for you; not exactly cute!
Purple on Purple
The color blue goes well with pretty much everything, which means it will look great on any color of braces. Blue braces are also a fun way to personalize your orthodontic treatment and show off your sense of style. If you don’t want to stand out too much, stick with just a single shade of blue for both your upper and lower braces. If you want to add some pizazz, you can always match your new smile with an eye-catching pair of shoes or bag. While we don’t recommend picking blue as your only choice if you have pink or purple braces with missing teeth, if mixed together these two hues give off a bit more subtle vibe that could be considered an accent color rather than being attention grabbing all on its own.
Gold on Gold
The gold-on-gold braces are one of these cute color braces that are a very popular choice for teens. This looks really good on young people with white teeth and it's really cute. However, if you have yellow teeth or stained teeth, you can't go with gold on gold because it will look like something is wrong with your teeth which isn't a good idea if you are in high school, college or just starting your career. This will make your personality less positive than expected and it could also affect your future career growth if you choose a wrong braces color while smiling to someone important. To avoid such negative effects, I think we should look at other types of color braces rather than going for gold on gold one!
Blue on Blue
If you’re going for pretty braces colors, but it turns out your orthodontist has a different idea of what that means than you do. Blue on blue—not so much. And while clear or white braces are ideal, they can be pretty dull (and look a little conspicuous). The bright side: Different-colored braces might be ugly, but they aren’t permanent—you can always paint them when your treatment ends!
You might just want to make sure you really like that color first... one girl who chose orange wrote on Reddit that she’s starting to regret it more and more each day after noticing her classmates constantly laughing at her chompers. Ouch. But in general, young adults who get cute braces often try to personalize their smile with bold colors like green and purple; according to an old post about teens getting weird colored brackets from KidsHealth, A rainbow smile shows confidence. That's one way of looking at it! Pretty braces colors make smiles pop.
